Play to Earn Games to Watch in December

As November bids farewell and the Thanksgiving festivities wind down, our focus shifts to some noteworthy games to anticipate in December. While more releases and playtests are on the horizon before the year concludes, we've identified a selection of web3 games and game-related companies for various compelling reasons!

The web3 gaming sector is experiencing continual expansion, particularly with mobile gaming witnessing a significant surge in player engagement. However, the landscape is not solely dominated by mobile games, as substantial development is still underway for desktop and web-based gaming experiences.

Join us in keeping a keen eye on these web3 gaming entities throughout the month of December!

Epic Games

Epic Games recently made an unexpected announcement, revealing their intention to eliminate the option for players to trade Rocket League skins. The decision is rooted in the desire to "align with Epic's overall approach to game cosmetics and item shop policies," emphasizing that items within the game won't be tradable, transferrable, or sellable.

It's worth noting that, in fairness, this game is owned by Epic Games, so the move doesn't involve the shutdown of a third-party marketplace. Additionally, Epic Games has not expressed any negative sentiments towards web3 gaming or NFTs in their statements.

Gods Unchained

Gods Unchained

Gods Unchained has introduced a fresh expansion set, a novel game mode (Sealed), and ongoing updates to its crafting feature, including the capability to craft unique 1-of-1 variants of legendary cards. Despite being a pioneering game in the web3 realm, Gods Unchained grapples with maintaining a significantly large player base, with weekly numbers hovering around 5k players.

Initial feedback from the new expansion is predominantly positive, with veteran players discovering renewed enthusiasm through additional cards, innovative game mechanics, and updated god powers. The play-to-earn aspect remains vibrant, as Gods Unchained now offers three distinct avenues for earning—daily play and earn, weekend tournaments, and victorious performances in Sealed mode.

Gala Games

Gala Games

Similar to Gods Unchained, Gala Games has a longstanding presence as a well-known web3 gaming company. Throughout the year, they've rolled out several official releases, including Grit (which appears to be abandoned), Champions Arena, and Legacy.

While Gala Games doesn't disclose specific player numbers, assessing from general player sentiment and my personal experience with their games, it appears that despite an expanding roster of playable games, player counts for many Gala Games titles are on a downward trend.

Additionally, Gala Games boasts a suite of mobile games that seem to enjoy popularity, likely benefiting from an existing and established player base.

Sweat Economy

Sweat Economy

Sweat Economy, a relatively new player in the web3 move-to-earn arena, gained a notable launch advantage by tapping into its pre-existing user base familiar with move-to-earn dynamics, particularly through gift cards and other rewards. Recently, Sweat Economy has extended its offerings to include a web3 wallet for those interested. Moreover, the platform has broadened its reach by making its app available on Android devices and welcoming users from the United States.

But there's more to come...

Naturally, the future holds more in store for web3 gaming. Make sure to stay tuned to our website for regular updates on all the latest web3 gaming news!
